Te Aute

This plantain block was established on Brownrigg’s Te Aute Station. The soils are silt loams and the site is typical of Hawkes Bay dryland with an annual rainfall of 800 mm. In March 2012, three similar paddocks were sown in either (1) plantain/clover, (2) ryegrass/white clover, or (3) a mix of ryegrass/plantain/clover. Following establishment, each block was split with electric fences into four paddocks and rotationally grazed through the winter with finishing lambs. Dry matter production and lamb growth rates have been measured. Full details and results to date are available in the Hub Group notes.
