Poporangi Farm is a 477 ha (377 ha effective) Kereru property 44 km west of Hastings, owned by Jim and Christine Spall. Located near the Ruahine Ranges it receives an annual rainfall of 1100 mm. A 7.4 ha block of chicory, plantain, red and white clover was established in Nov 2012. This follows a similar 7.2 ha sowing in Nov 2011. Dry matter production is being measured in both chicory/plantain stands and compared against a 6.0 block of ryegrass/white clover sown in 2010. A primary feature of Poporangi Farm is that a large part is underlain by a pan restricting the use of lucerne and encouraging us to use chicory/plantain.
